Aircraft engineer

Aircraft engineers were responsible for the inspection and maintenance of aircraft. At Swissair, apprentices were known simply as mechanics. They were only called aircraft engineers on completion of their training. Although this title is no longer officially recognised, it is still in common use. The new title is “aircraft technician”.
