In 1934, Swissair became the first European airline to introduce stewardesses to look after passengers and provide culinary services. The name “Stewardess” was derived from “ship’s steward”. It later became “Air hostess”. Since the 1970s, the term “Flight attendant” has been used, although this is currently being replaced by “Cabin crew member”.
